Hill Of The Dead:
"The townland of Knocknamarriff is in the Berrings district in the parish of Inniscarra, Co. Cork. It is said that at some period of Irish history a battle was fought in a certain field in this townland and because of the slaughter that took place there, the townland got its name".
The Pound Field:
"In the townland of Callas [Calaidh-Riverside patches] Inniscarra is a field about the acre in extent known locally as the Pound Field. It appears a corner was used as a cattle pound many years ago, when cattle were suited for non payment of rents or rates. At one side of the little field was a laneway, which was continued south of thepresent preist's house at Callas Berrings. This laneway of which no trace can be seen connected the Callas Berrings road with some marshes near the present priests' house and one old inhabitant Eugene Lane of Berrings, Inniscarra played 'bowls' in this laneway when he was a little boy"
The Barrack:
"In a farm once owned by John O' Callaghan of Ballyshonin, Berrings is the site of an old house known locally as 'The Barrack'. It got its name thus- The O' Callaghan family were evicted many years ago by a landlord named philips, and a man was put into the house instead to run the farm and carry on the work; such men were known as 'Emergency Men'. The people of the neighbourhood did not want this state of affairs and the life of the emergency men in danger. Consequently the police were called in to give him protection. They took up residence in the house in question which has since been known locally as 'The Barrack'".
The Moving Well:
"About half a mile away from my house in the townland of Callas, parish of Inniscarra, Co. Cork, there is a holy well known as 'Judes Well'... it is said that a very holy priest by the name of Fr. Jude, was often seen praying by this well. I was told visits were paid to this well about 60 years ago. It is now covered with bushes etc. There is another holy well about a mile from my house in the 'Stoney New Line', townland of Carhue, parish of Inniscarra Co. Cork. It was said that it was not always there, but about four miles away in the parish of Donoughmore, and a women came to was four potatoes there. When she put them boiling they would not boil. That night the well shifted to the 'Stoney New Line', where it is at present. It shifted four miles because she washed four potatoes in it".
